FDA Compliance & Barrier Protection

In food packaging, safety is paramount. Rice Packaging operates with strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). We utilize low-migration inks and coatings that are safe for indirect and direct food contact, ensuring no chemical odors or substances transfer to your product.

Specialized Food Substrates:

  • Freezer-Grade Poly-Coated Board: For frozen entrees, ice cream, and meats, we apply a thin polyethylene (PE) coating to the inside of the carton. This prevents freezer burn and stops moisture from wicking into the paper fibers.

  • Grease-Resistant Coatings: For bakery items, donuts, or fried foods, we utilize aqueous coatings that resist grease penetration, preventing unsightly oil spots from ruining the exterior graphics.

  • Window Patching: Consumers eat with their eyes. We integrate die-cut windows with clear polyester or acetate patching, allowing shoppers to verify the freshness of your pasta, granola, or confectionery before buying.

Supply Chain Integrity

Food recalls due to packaging failures are costly. Our 100% GMI Rating (Graphic Measures International) means our process controls—from color consistency to glue integrity—are audited and verified. We use automated glue-line detection systems to ensure every food carton is sealed perfectly, preventing contamination or spoilage.

Most of our aqueous and clay-coated boxes are fully repulpable and recyclable. If you require a heavy poly-barrier for frozen food, recycling streams vary by municipality, but we can offer newer water-based barrier coatings that offer similar protection while remaining 100% curbside recyclable.

While we are not legal consultants, our prepress team is highly experienced with FDA labeling layouts. We review your files to ensure the Nutrition Facts panel is legible, fonts meet minimum size requirements, and allergen warnings are positioned correctly according to the die-line.

Yes. We can design structural locking mechanisms or apply perforated “zipper” strips that must be torn to open the box. This gives consumers visual proof that the product has not been opened or tampered with in the store.
